The Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi paid an official visit to the Russian Federation on July 8-9, 2024 at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for the 22nd India – Russia Annual Summit.

During the visit, President Vladimir Putin conferred Russia’s highest civilian honour the ‘Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his distinguished contribution to the development of Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia and friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi accompanied by Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the All Russian Exhibition Centre, VDNKh, in Moscow on July 09, 2024.

The two leaders toured the Rosatom Pavilion at VDNKh. The Rosatom pavilion, inaugurated in November 2023, is one of the largest exhibitions on the history of scientific and technological developments. The Prime Minister witnessed a photo exhibition dedicated to India-Russia cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy. He was also shown the ‘Atomic Symphony’ – a permanent working model of the VVER-1000 reactor, which is the heart of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) in India.

During their meetings, the leaders and their associates reiterated the importance of the robust and wide-ranging cooperation in the energy sector as a significant pillar of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. In this context, the sides noted the continued special importance of bilateral trade in energy resources and agreed to explore new long-term contracts.

Also, the sides appreciated the ongoing cooperation in the coal sector and agreed to explore the possibility for further increasing supply of coking coal to India, and the opportunities of exporting anthracite coal from Russia to India.
