Siemens Energy has signed an agreement with Mai-Liao Power Corporation to supply key equipment and provide long term service for a new gas fired combined cycle power plant in Taiwan. The project comprises two combined cycle units, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, for a total installed capacity of 2,400 megawatts. The new plant will replace 1,800 megawatts of existing coal fired generation capacity.
The scope of supply includes four SGT6-9000HL gas turbines, as well as generators, steam turbines, condensers and associated auxiliary equipment. The plant will deploy Siemens Energy’s HL class gas turbine technology, designed to achieve high efficiency across a broad operating range. This enables faster start up and more responsive load adjustment, allowing the plant to adapt to fluctuations in electricity demand and support system dispatch under changing generation conditions.
Once commercially operational, carbon dioxide emissions per kilowatt hour are expected to be reduced by approximately 58% compared with the existing coal fired units.
