India’s RE Adoption Programmes Are Truly Admirable

The way generation of Renewable Energy (RE) is increasing in India that is truly praiseworthy. Although the growth of solar energy is what stands out most prominently, we have nonetheless managed to secure  a high place for ourselves in the global statistics for wind energy as well.

Recently, India has surpassed Brazil to secure third position in Global Renewable Energy Rankings. We have achieved a total non-fossil capacity addition of 55.3 GW during FY 2025–26. At present, as per IRENA RE Statistics 2026 with data as on December, 2025, we are just behind China (2258.02 GW) and the USA (467.92 GW) with an RE capacity of 250.52 GW.

The most significant and promising aspect is our citizens’ growing enthusiasm for the use of RE. And this has largely been made possible because of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. If viewed from another perspective, this also demonstrates the success of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Since the launch of the PMSG: MBY (PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Muft Bijli Yojana) in February 2024, a total of 9,566.89 MW Rooftop Solar (RTS) capacity has been added across the country, as on 20.03.2026.

With the implementation of PMSG: MBY, it has been estimated that around 17 lakh jobs will be created in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, sales and installations, O&M services, financial services, etc.

The PMSG: MBY is a demand driven scheme wherein all residential consumers in the country, who are connected to the grid, can avail the benefits of the scheme, for installation of RTS systems, by applying on the National Portal of the scheme. Thus,
I request all readers to take the advantage of this scheme.
