The new gas field at the Koilastila Gas field has capacity to produce 20 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD)…

As per the Ministry of power, energy and mineral resources, Bangladesh, the Sylhet  Gas Fields authorities have said that it will be possible to supply 17-19 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid from the newly discovered well number 6 by May 10.

The production capacity of the well will last for several years. The remaining extractable gas reserves of the Lower Gas Sand Zone at Koilashtila Field are 758 billion cubic feet. They hope that the remaining gas will be produced through various wells in phases.

Minister Nasrul Hamid has informed that the method and scope of gas exploration activities have been extended.

He has said that Koilastila Gas Field is one of the five gas fields purchased from the Shell Oil company by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975 for just 4.5 million pounds which shows his foresight.

So far 7 wells have been drilled in the Koilastila gas field of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL). Of these, 29 million cubic feet of gas is being produced daily from two running wells and supplied to the national grid.

Bangladesh currently produces 2370 MMCFD from its 26 commercial gas fields out of which 85% comes from the top four gas fields.

Bibiyana Gas Field and Titas Gas field are its major locations for production of gas. It is estimated that Bangladesh has a remaining gas reserve of 11 trillion cubic feet.
