Chubu Electric Power Plans Additional Hydropower Capacity Development

Chubu Electric Power has decided to construct the Nishimura Hydroelectric Power Station in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, utilizing the runoff from the Maze River in the Kiso River system.

The station is a run-of-the-river type hydroelectric power plant with a generation output of 1,930 kW, utilizing the unused head between the Nishimura Dam and the Iwaya Dam, which are already in place.

The Seto 2nd Hydroelectric Power Station (Seto II) takes water from the Maze River and discharges it into the Hida River, but when the Maze and Hida Rivers have high flows, the water is not taken but stored in the Iwaya Dam.

By diverting the water pipeline of Seto II and discharging the water into the Iwaya Dam located downstream, the station will make effective use of water that has not been utilized at Seto II.
