Electric River Ships are being Tested in Moscow

Since September 2022, the electric vessel has passed dozens of special tests and test exits to the water area. The most important stage of testing in winter with an icy environment will begin soon.

The launch of electric vessels is a unique project not only for Russia – it is one of the most innovative and best projects in the world. Thanks to engineering solutions, ships can become unmanned in the future.

Hull of the vessel, traction electric motor, climate control system, GLONASS system, glazing of the vessel, skin panels, bike parking, automated ramp, vessel lighting control system, side doors and all control software are all Russian-made. All electric ships have an ice class and will operate all year round: passengers will be able to choose a faster route along the river even in winter.

The Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has set a task to launch safe and convenient regular river transport. Now they are testing the first electric vessels, charging and finishing the special berth that was installed at the beginning of October at the Kievsky pier. Only after carrying out the necessary volume of tests, which will last up to 6 months, vessels can be allowed for regular transportation with passengers. In the test mode, electric vessels will start running by the beginning of river navigation in 2023 on the regular route from Fili Park to Kievsky. It is planned that the second route from Avtozavodsky Bridge to Pechatniki will be launched in September, – informed Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
