GameChange Solar unveils 631 MW Genius Tracker in South Texas

GameChange Solar introduces a 631 MW Genius Tracker system in southern Texas. The system will be the largest solar PV project in the state and, when completed, one of the largest in the country. The project consists of 1.4 million solar panels on an area of 16,000 m2 (4,000 acres) in Wharton County, just outside the greater Houston area). This capacity will generate 500 MWac / 631 MWdc of renewable energy and supply 100,000 households with electricity annually. The electricity generated at the project location will be purchased in blocks and sold to the ERCOT wholesale market from 2021. The EPC expects the project to be completed in mid-2022.

Allison Larson, Director of Business Development, GameChange Solar, said: “We are focused on providing excellent logistical support and training to ensure this 631 MW project in Texas runs smoothly and successfully for the EPC and the project owner. The system uses the proven and quick to install Genius Tracker with pre-assembled SpeedClamps, which increases the installation speed compared to typical competitors. We look forward to more of these large utility-scale projects in Texas and elsewhere.”

Max Johnson, Director of Business Development, GameChange Solar, said: “This record-breaking PV power plant is located on the Texas Gulf Coast and near several other major solar developments. GameChange Solar’s Genius Tracker was selected for this milestone project because of its rugged design and ability to withstand high winds. Our engineering team and dedicated local representatives are ready to support developers and owners who are using the Genius Tracker on their surrounding properties, which are due to have the groundbreaking later this year.”
