Karnataka – an Exemplary State to Accelerate its Green Journey

Recently, FICCI, jointly with Hero Futures Energies organized an interaction on Renewable Energy (RE) Adoption by Industrial Consumers in Bengaluru. As one of the progressive Indian states, Karnataka bears a distinguished glory of pioneering, promoting, supporting and successfully implementing new ideas in the state-based industries. We all know that the role of RE in industries is multifaceted and can have significant impacts on industry’s vision for sustainability, decarbonization, cost competitiveness and environmental goals.

During the interaction programme, beside others, Karnataka Government officials: Aparna Pavate, Additional Secretary, Energy Department; and Amarnath N, Chief Executive Officer, Karnataka Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd.; nicely described the state’s future plans for deploying renewable energy, especially to the industries.

Karnataka is the pioneering state in development of renewable energy with the policy initiative starting way back in 2009. Now, the state is taking pioneering steps to revolutionize the energy landscape. Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy 2022-2027 stands as a beacon of the state’s commitment to a greener future targeting to strengthen power sub-stations for evacuation, develop RE ecosystem and augment distribution networks. The state has also taken initiative for developing hybrid parks that will produce a total of 5,000 MW of green energy.

I recall Karnataka formulated an Electric Vehicle (EV) policy even before the union government could come out with their EV policy. It’s really appreciable and exemplary that beside all sorts of political turbulence, the state is striding with strong determination towards fulfilling its green goal.
