The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been supporting programmes for promoting biogas as a clean fuel for domestic cooking, off-grid and grid power generation and bio-CNG for transport applications.
Owing to this backdrop, there is a strong need to take up research and development initiatives for technology development and demonstration to integrate biogas technology for biogas generation and up-gradation for heat and power applications and bio-fertilizer for sustainable energy and agriculture development.
Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy is an autonomous Institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. The vision of the Institute is to carry out state-of-the-art research and development, demonstration, testing and standardization activities, including human resource development at all levels, post-doctoral research and research for wide promotion of bioenergy in the country.
The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) is the first nationwide and professional biogas association for operators, manufacturers and planners of biogas plants, and representatives from public policy, science and research in India.
Under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, now these two organisations together are all set to offer a virtual training programme titled, Biogas Technology and its Implementation (Biogas Generation, Enrichment, Design, Operation & Maintenance, and Policy & Financing).
Aim of the programme
The aim of this programme is to impart training to SNDs/ SNAs/ BDTCs/ KVIC, Manufacturers of Biogas Plants, Purification Systems, Engines, Gas Flow Meters, Project Developers, Implementers, Consultants, Start-ups, Faculty, Researchers, and Students to various aspects of biogas technology like biogas generation, enrichment, design, operation & maintenance, and policy & financing to familiarize them with the importance of biogas as a fuel and present status of biogas programme, inter-alia details about how biogas is upgraded. The programme is also intended for field supervisory functionaries involved in the implementation of biogas programmes.
