Amplus Solar has signed an agreement with JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., to supply solar power for its cement facility in Durg, Chhattisgarh. Through this initiative, JK Lakshmi Cement will be able to replace 92 million units with green electricity that will help reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 88,352 metric tonnes, in the first year itself.

Commenting on the development, Sharad Pungalia, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Amplus Solar, said, “It is wonderful to see that the forerunners of India’s cement sector have chosen to further their objective of creating zero-carbon cement. JK Lakshmi Cement’s approach will help the industry decarbonize the sector and serve as a model for others to follow.”

Revealing their perspective, Vinita Singhania, Vice Chairperson & Managing Director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, “In recent years, we have undertaken multiple projects to lower our carbon footprint. Our recently initiated campaign, ‘Green Pahal, Behtar Kal’, focuses on creating awareness about improving energy efficiency and saving the environment. I am sure we will leave a greener planet for our future generations.”

Sharing further details, Arun Shukla, President & Director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, “We have taken multiple steps to reduce both direct and indirect carbon emissions. With this switch to solar energy at our Durg plant, nearly 80% of the energy requirements of the plant will be met through renewable sources.”
