Bhakra Dam and D.K. Sharma conferred National Award

Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) based on recommendations of the high level jury has awarded the most prestigious National Level Award to 'Bhakra Dam', the Temple of Modern India, as ‘Best Maintained Project (Functional for more than 50 years)’ to BBMB.

 Bhakra Dam, the Iconic Multipurpose Project of India was dedicated to the nation on 22 October, 1963. Two power houses of Bhakra Dam on left and right banks of the river contributes 1379 MW of power in the Northern Grid besides playing an important role of supplying ‘Black Start Power’ in the event of Grid Collapse.

  Keeping in view outstanding maintenance and operation of the Project and its service to the nation, Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) based on recommendations of the high level jury has awarded the most prestigious National Level Award to ‘Bhakra Dam’, the Temple of Modern India, as ‘Best Maintained Project (Functional for more than 50 years)’ to BBMB. The citation reads, ‘Best Maintained Project (Functional for more than 50 years) presented to Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for Bhakra Dam for excellent maintenance of Dam.
