NHPC SIGNS MOU WITH DVC FOR EXPLORING, SETTING UP NEW PROJECTS

NHPC Limited, an Indian government hydropower board under the ownership of Ministry of Power, Government of India; has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a government-owned power generator which operates in the Damodar River area of West Bengal and Jharkhand states of India; to explore the formation of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for exploring and setting up hydropower and pump storage projects at NHPC Corporate Office, Faridabad. The MOU was signed in the august presence of A.K. Singh, CMD, NHPC Limited, and Ram Naresh Singh, Chairman, DVC.

The MOU heralds a new dawn in cooperation between the two Power Sector organizations in jointly harnessing the hydropower projects and pump storage projects as energy storage solutions in line with the national objective of energy transition i.e. 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and Net Zero by 2070. The MOU envisages the joint development of mutually identified projects.

Y. K. Chaubey, Director (Technical); R. P. Goyal, Director (Finance); and Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects) from NHPC, and Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance), DVC also graced the occasion along with other senior officers from both the organizations.

Recently, NHPC Limited also organized various programmes under Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @ 2047 in 74 districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Territory of Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. The local public representatives and people as well as students actively participated in these events.
