Dear readers, patrons and other associates, as we are entering a new (English) year, I take this opportunity to convey my best wishes to all of you for a very productive and prosperous new year 2025.
Global environment is at a great stake. Although only 20% of final energy consumption is in the form of electricity, its generation is responsible for over 40% of all energy-related emissions. Every year globally, around 34 billion tonnes of CO2 is emitted from burning fossil fuels.
When we reduce our energy consumption, we lower the impact on climate deterioration. However, this simple fact is yet to be realised by the majority of the global citizens. Thus, to disseminate the concept all governments need to take steps. In this regard, I highly appreciate our government’s role.
As I told you last time, every year in India, this deep dedication to sustainability is passionately commemorated on December 14 as National Energy Conservation Day (NECD). This annual observance shines as a ray of hope and shared responsibility, underscoring the critical need for adopting sustainable energy practices. Far beyond a ceremonial occasion, it serves as a driving force for individuals, industries, and institutions to embrace energy efficiency.
At the beginning of 2025, I would like to reiterate a few words that our honourable Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, delivered during the latest NECD celebration, i.e., “It is a collective to the entire humanity and therefore, an obligation on us that there has to be optimal utilisation of resources, optimal utilisation of energy. Our resources on the planet are not infinite. If we engage in reckless exploitation then we are depriving our future generations of what is there to due.”
