It is really pleasing to note that our country is progressing very fast towards the era of complete Green Power Generation. However, mere generation of Green Power is not enough, we have to ensure that no power (so generated) is wasted. Thus, on 6th October this year, the Ministry of Power invited suggestions with regard to formulation of a Comprehensive Policy Framework and recommended other interventions to promote Energy Storage in Power Sector. The last date for submission of the suggestions was October 31.
On 11th November, R. K. Singh, Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy chaired a virtual meeting with senior officials from Central Government, Central PSUs, Renewable Energy Developers, PSP Developers and Battery Manufacturers for discussion on the ‘Report on Comprehensive Policy Framework for promotion of Energy Storage in the Power Sector. Evidently, this reflects the serious intention of our government to accelerate the process of creating Energy Storage facilities in the country.
In the meeting, Singh has emphasized on the objective, which should be to ensure that no energy is lost and for that we need to be in a position to store all the energy, which is going to be surplus at any point of time. According to him, some storage needs to be added with the generation in order to ensure round the clock Renewable Energy. Beside directing to prepare separate Guidelines on Treatment of Energy Storage and Resource Adequacy, he has asked to work out the requirement of storage capacity year wise in keeping with the upcoming addition of Solar & Wind projects. Obviously, his prudent intention is praiseworthy.
