Prasant Kumar Mohapatra has been inducted as the Managing Director (M. D.) of Odisha Power Generating Company (OPGC). He is the first person to be appointed as OPGC MD after the exit of AES and subsequent acquisition of full management control by the State Government.
A resident of Bhubaneswar, Mohapatra has a notable career spanning over a period of 39 years in NTPC, where he acted on a number of pivotal roles ranging from concept to commissioning of large and super critical power plants. He retired from the service of NTPC in 2019 as Director (Technical) – and was working as a Senior Advisor at NSPCL (NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited).
OPGC is an Odisha Government owned company. It operates a state-of-the-art thermal power plant at Banharpalli, Jharsuguda. It has a total generation capacity of 1740 MW (2×210 MW in first phase and 2x660MW in second phase).
