“ELECRAMA is truly growing organically…”

The power management company Eaton is doing business in more than 175 countries. The company’s electrical business in India consistently meets the demands of today’s economy with its comprehensive line of products and solutions. In a short interaction with the editorial team of Electrical India during ELECRAMA 2025, Syed Sajjadh Ali, Managing Director, Electrical Sector, India, Eaton, highlighted his company’s current activities and future plans for India, Excerpts…

What are the key sectors that EATON caters to?

We serve the entire electrical industry in India, but we specialize in certain segments such as data centers, industrial, residential, utilities, and OEMs.

By using a segmented approach, we attempt to map out all the activities and investments that are occurring and adjust our plans to meet the needs of our clients. In this way, we attempt to introduce modern products that promote growth and benefit society and the environment.

What are the latest products or technologies that you have launched at ELECRAMA 2025?

We’re showcasing a wide range of our portfolio at Elecrama 2025, with a strong emphasis on ‘Make in India’. At ELECRAMA, we have newly launched the 9395 XR Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system, a 1.5MW UPS with a remarkably small footprint, modular design, and hot-swappable capabilities, which is generating significant interest amongst our customers. The 9395 XR is an advanced power backup solution designed to maximize energy efficiency, enhance system reliability, and ensure seamless operation for mission-critical infrastructure such as data centers and industrial facilities.

We are also showcasing our new range of low-voltage (LV) to medium-voltage (MV) switchgear solutions tailored for the solar and wind energy segments. The lineup includes Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) and Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs), specifically engineered for rooftop solar, commercial, and industrial installations. All these products will be manufactured at our Pondicherry plant aligning with our strong focus on ‘Make in India’. We’re also highlighting our digital offerings within the Brightlayer suite, enabling interconnected equipment, data capture and process optimization.

The SF6 free RMU is a product that we are introducing on the power distribution front. The SF6 gas tank governs RMUs.  We now have SF6 free, a product that will be more efficient and environmentally friendly.

EATON focuses a lot on MAKE IN INDIA solutions. Could you tell us more about it?

Our goal is to establish our own manufacturing presence in India. For this reason, we have made significant investments in our Pondicherry manufacturing facility with our recent expansion. The newly expanded facility of 120,000 square feet includes a state-of-the-art 100,000 square feet shop floor dedicated to Power Distribution product lines, along with 20,000 square feet for utilities and supporting infrastructure. The expanded facility extends Eaton’s manufacturing footprint in Pondicherry to over 260,000 square feet. With this expansion, Eaton aims to double the production capacity of its Power Distribution assembly lines, manufacturing critical products such as Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs), Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs) and Fuses.

This expansion marks a major milestone in Eaton’s ongoing commitment to manufacturing excellence, localization, and community development. With this expansion we’re not merely replicating existing product lines – but also actively improving and adapting them to the requirements of Indian market while investing in advanced manufacturing assets.

Additionally, the expanded facility houses a centralized warehouse that consolidates all of Eaton’s Power Distribution products and includes a newly developed R&D center. This will ensure enhanced operational efficiency and faster delivery times for our customers across India.

What are your future plans for expansion?

Over the past ten to twelve years, our Pondicherry plant has been growing and evolving.  Accordingly, we always have something (document) known as the product road map.  The product roadmap considers the volume growth over the next ten years as well as the strategic plans we have implemented.  As a result, the Pondicherry plant is investing heavily in real estate, equipment, resources, people, and everything else in order to better meet the company’s growth needs over the ensuing decade.

The plant is located in a very good location. Because the resources are the highly qualified personnel in that field – and we are able to learn about the most advanced technical aspects.  It has excellent access to the highway, train, and airport.  Additionally, we have seaports on Pondicherry and Karaikal, as well as two more close by.  Because of its favourable location, we are expanding our manufacturing presence there.

How is your approach towards the integration of energy efficient and sustainable practices in providing power solutions?

As an intelligent power management company, we are dedicated to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for people everywhere. Sustainability and efficiency are at the core of everything we do.

We have a dedicated focus on energy transition, supporting the growth of solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources. Our product roadmap and internal carbon neutrality targets are directly aligned with these goals, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality in our operations by 2030. In fact, the Pondicherry Plant, is a zero-discharge and zero-waste fill certified plant.

How do you think the last edition of ELECRAMA is different from this year’s? What are your key takeaways?

Each edition of ELECRAMA undergoes significant evolution. I am especially delighted to see businesses expanding, with many new enterprises entering the market, introducing innovative products, and unveiling emerging technologies. Beyond showcasing our own work, we use this platform as an opportunity to learn from others – their strategies, advancements, and approaches.

In this regard, ELECRAMA is truly growing organically. While its scale remains consistent, its scope continues to broaden, offering immense possibilities. What stands out this year is the abundant exchange of technology, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing that drives the event forward.
