What is the USP of the products testing solutions of OMICRON? What kind of competition are you facing in the Indian market?

OMICRON stands for innovation. Our pioneering solutions are the result of our natural curiosity and our ability to think outside of the box. We love to experiment, we enjoy a challenge, and we don’t give up, meaning that we are continually setting groundbreaking standards in our industry. Our products and solutions are functional and precise, easy to use, and are manufactured with an extremely high level of quality, with excellent after-sales service and support to our esteemed customers.

Incidentally, quality always comes at a price, hence OMICRON products are the most expensive too. This is the challenge in countries like ours where the selling price determines the outcome of the utility tender purchases.

The energy sector is going through a major transformation and reform in the distribution and rural electrification space. How does this transformation impact your business?

Most of our products cater to the entire power system, right from generation to transmission to distribution, renewable energy, industry, etc. Hence, the need is felt more and more to use OMICRON’s diagnostic and testing devices to maintain Distribution Automation systems as part of reforms in the distribution and rural electrification space.

Further, we also have specific devices to cater to this market segment, one example being ARCO 400 for recloser control testing.

What are the various types of software testing and applications systems that you are offering now?

Strength of OMICRON lies in proven testing, diagnostic, and monitoring solutions for the power industry. We emphasis a lot on Test Automation; Offline and Online Measuring and Analysis solutions; Cyber Security (OT/ICS) for the Power Grid; IEC61850 solutions; etc. to name a few.

What are the latest developments taking place in the fields of electrical power systems, testing, diagnostic and monitoring solutions?

How has digitalization played a role in the current scenario for your business?

Modern substations, power plants, and control centers rely on ethernet-based communication. Especially when it comes to Operational Technology (OT) security, the associated interconnection introduces new security risks and can potentially result in major reputation losses for our customers.

To prevent cyberattacks and mitigate their damage, it is vital to identify risks and detect cyber threats and prohibited activities in real time based on an Industrial Control System (ICS) security strategy. Regarding cybersecurity for utilities, the applied solutions must support security officers as well as OT engineers to ensure an efficient response to incidents. Having continuous knowledge and precise documentation of the risk level is vital for recommending the right actions early enough and maximizing availability.

How do you stay up-to-date with technological advancements and emerging trends in the renewable energy sector?

The renewable energy transition poses significant challenges for the electricity sector. On one hand, increasing demand for electrical energy (due to electrification of e.g., mobility and heating) and on the other hand, replacing existing fossil fuel power plants with renewable energy resources.

We support our customers with suitable solutions for testing grid and system protection, in particular for Interconnection relays; Reactive power directional undervoltage protection; Automatic frequency unloading; Short-circuit protection functions of various device manufacturers.

Are you planning to launch any new products/solutions at the ELECRAMA exhibition 2025?

OMICRON shall proudly launch CMC 500 – the new benchmark in Protection Testing for maximum security of power supply.

CMC 500 is lightweight and compact; with modular hardware and software concept to fulfil user requirements perfectly while meeting the highest safety standards.
